Happy Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD)!
Firstly, what is GAAD?
Today, as we celebrate Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD), we recognise the importance of making digital platforms and telecommunications services accessible to everyone. GAAD is an annual event, celebrated every third Thursday in May, dedicated to raising awareness about digital accessibility and promoting inclusive design practices.
So, as such we are launching two new exciting resources!
The first initiative is a new educational video series funded by a systemic advocacy grant from the Department of Communities WA. The series includes two videos: “What is Digital Accessibility?” and “Why Digital Access is Access for Us All.” These videos provide critical insights into the importance of accessible digital experiences, catering to both individuals navigating digital spaces and business owners looking to make their platforms more inclusive.
In addition, we are also introducing the “Cancellations for All Report,” a comprehensive guide supported by the Australian Communications Consumer Action Network (ACCAN). This report enables consumers with disability to review companies offering SIM mobile plans in Australia, helping them easily identify those with accessible support and cancellation services.
Both the educational video series and the “Cancellations for All Report” are now available to the public. As we celebrate GAAD, the Centre for Accessibility Australia encourages everyone to explore these new resources and join in the effort to create a world where digital access goes beyond compliance, fostering true inclusivity and accessibility for all.
