Android has released a new update for their smartwatch and mobile devices, which includes a new Reading Mode, a feature that will make the digital experience more accessible for screen reader users. This feature includes customisable contrast, text size, text-to-speech and font types of web pages and apps. The text-to-speech function with speed control also offers the user the ability to select from a range of ‘natural sounding voices’, with the support of English, French, Italian and Spanish languages. All of this allows each individual to have the freedom to customise their content to suit their needs.
To access this feature, users can install the Reading Mode app directly from the Google Play store. Upon installation, the app integrates into the device’s quick settings and then can be accessed across apps and web pages.
Reading Mode is also compatible with the Google Talkback Screen Reader.
