A new technology is being developed to transform the way people with hearing loss interact with the world. Designer Jason Rugolo and his team are working on an “audio computer” that can augment and enhance sounds, translate conversations in real-time, and respond naturally to voice commands.
While the technology is still in its conceptual phase, it shows great promise for the deaf community. The potential for being able to clearly hear a friend’s voice in a crowded restaurant, or effortlessly understanding a conversation in a foreign language is a close possibility. Rugolo’s vision is to create a world where people can utilise technology like AI without being glued to a screen.
