The Curtin enAble Institute, in collaboration with Ability WA, are conducting a project to explore the lived experiences of attending cinemas in Western Australia among individuals with disabilities and / or accessibility needs and their support people.
Going to the cinema is an activity intended for leisure and relaxation but may pose many challenges and barriers to individuals with accessibility needs.
This study aims to understand the barriers to fully participating in the cinema experience for people with accessibility needs and identify potential solutions and strategies to overcoming these barriers, with the hope to improve cinema access for people with a variety of accessibility needs.
We would love to hear from people with accessibility needs (e.g. use of wheelchair, hearing aids, guide dog, screen reader) and support workers or carers of people with accessibility needs, to share their experiences of attending the cinema. Individuals with accessibility needs can choose to complete a 10-minute survey and / or a 60-minute interview about their experiences. Supporters of individuals with accessibility needs can participate in a 10-minute online survey.
Participants will be thanked for their participation with an e-gift card for completing the survey and/or the interview.
If you are interested in participating or know of anyone who may be interested in sharing their experiences, please go to the Recruitment Survey to sign up.
