Recently, we at Centre for Accessibility Australia (CFA Australia) worked alongside the Western Australian Museum on a series of projects aimed at enhancing the museum’s digital accessibility. Our collaboration included:
– Auditing their social media platforms for accessibility
– Creating a visual story for their website showcasing the “To the Moon” exhibit
– Developing a comprehensive accessibility report for the “To the Moon” exhibit, providing actionable recommendations for improvement
We also had the opportunity to facilitate a workshop with the museum’s marketing team on accessible social media practices. One of the fascinating discussions during the session was the nuances of alt text for art, which differs from traditional website alt text. We delved into how art alt text requires a more descriptive and interpretive approach, providing context and meaning to the artwork for users who are blind or have low vision. It was a great experience to explore this specialised aspect of accessibility together!
We’re pleased to have collaborated with the Western Australian Museum on their digital accessibility journey. Building on their existing efforts, such as providing adjustable text size and alternative formats for documents and PDF files upon request, we’re excited to see the positive impact of our joint work.
