ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice mode is enhancing accessibility and transforming education by enabling natural, flowing audio conversations with AI.

The feature, demonstrated by a student during a World Teachers’ Day event, allowed for seamless multilingual communication, bridging language barriers.

Advanced Voice mode uses GPT-4’s audio capabilities to understand context, respond to emotions, and maintain coherent dialogues, even when interrupted.

It supports 50 languages, making it an effective tool for language learning and global communication.

Controversy arose during development due to the use of a voice resembling Scarlett Johansson’s, leading to a delayed launch and an apology from OpenAI.

Currently, this feature is available to ChatGPT Plus and Team subscribers via the mobile app, though it’s restricted in some regions due to regulations on emotion detection in AI.

Advanced Voice mode offers several educational benefits, including language practice, personalised tutoring, accessibility for students who are blind or with low vision, and verbal feedback on assignments.

Looking ahead, AI tools like this will play a critical role in creating more accessible and personalised learning experiences, while educators must consider data privacy and the digital divide.

ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode improves accessibility in education, assisting people with a range of disability, including those who are blind or with low vision, through audio conversations and voice commands.
