December 3rd is International Day of Persons with Disabilities. To mark the occasion, we’re highlighting the importance of digital accessibility.
Digital accessibility is about making sure websites, apps, and digital platforms can be used by everyone.
This includes:
– Accessible websites and mobile apps
– Closed captions and audio descriptions
– Screen reader compatibility and high contrast modes.
In Australia, digital accessibility is a significant issue:
– 1 in 5 Australians live with a disability (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2019)
– 71% of Australians with a disability use the internet, compared to 85% of those without a disability (Australian Communications and Media Authority, 2019)
– 45% of Australian websites have accessibility issues, making it difficult for people with disability to access online services (Vision Australia, 2020).
By making digital accessibility a priority, we can create a more inclusive online world.
