Microsoft’s Photos app will soon include Optical Character Recognition (OCR), making it easier for people who are blind or with low vision to access information. The OCR feature extracts text from images, working with screen readers, which reduces barriers to information.
The OCR feature allows users to extract text from images, including notes, photos, documents, and screenshots. The extracted text is automatically copied to the clipboard, enabling users to paste it into other applications and reducing the need for manual data entry.
This OCR integration will build on Microsoft’s existing accessibility tools, including Narrator, Magnifier, high contrast themes, and closed captions, to provide a more comprehensive support system.
This feature will roll out to Windows 11 and Windows 10 upon its official release.
