RTRFM is an independent, non-profit community radio station that provides an alternative voice for Perth through innovative music and talks programming. It is proud to have established a strong reputation within Western Australia and has been striving to create a diverse community of passionate music and arts lovers for more than 45 years. RTRFM provides a platform for local news and issues, with a strong focus on the arts, culture, social justice, politics and the environment.
In late 2021, RTRFM formed the Disability Inclusion Advisory Group (DIAG) to help guide the station, programming and events in its efforts to become even more inclusive and accessible. This coincided with the launch of Breaking Sound Barriers, an ongoing initiative to provide podcasting and broadcasting training to people with disability. You can find all episodes of Breaking Sound Barriers, and their transcripts.
Now, they are publishing one of the first outputs of the DIAG – their Disability Inclusion Plan (DIP), which will be a living document that will be edited and amended as they receive feedback from the public, primarily from those with a lived experience of disability. Once they have grown and amended this document, they will be sharing an updated version of the DIP ahead of the International Day of People with Disability on Saturday 3 December.
RTRFM is now seeking feedback from the Perth community, specifically from people with disabilities. If you would like to give input on the inclusivity and accessibility of local radio, you can have your say.
