Accessibility Settings

Getting to the Accessibility Settings Menu

  1. Navigate to the Settings menu, found by selecting the gear icon in the top right of the main menu.

  1. Navigate to the Accessibility settings in the bottom row.

Vision Related

VoiceView

  1. Open the Accessibility settings menu.
  2. Select “VoiceView”, then select it again in the secondary menu to toggle VoiceView on.

  1. If VoiceView has not previously been enabled, a tutorial will begin. Follow instructions provided by the device, which are both on screen and spoken, to either skip or proceed through the tutorial.

  1. Navigate up and down to adjust VoiceView settings, such as Reading Speed, Volume, and Punctuation Level, or to replay the tutorial.

Text Banner

  1. Open the Accessibility settings menu.
  2. Select “Text Banner”, then select it again in the secondary menu to toggle VoiceView on.

  1. A Text Banner tutorial will appear. Select OK when you are ready to dismiss the instructions.

  1. Navigate up and down to adjust Text Banner settings, such as Font Size, Colour, and Banner Size, or to display the tutorial.

Screen Magnifier

  1. Open the Accessibility settings menu.
  2. Select “Screen Magnifier” to toggle the Screen Magnifier on.

  1. A Screen Magnifier tutorial will appear. Select OK when you are ready to dismiss the instructions.

High-Contrast Text

  1. Open the Accessibility settings menu.
  2. Select “High-Contrast Text (Experimental)” to toggle High-Contrast text on.

Audio Description (Prime Video Only)

  1. Open the Accessibility settings menu.
  2. Select “Audio Description” followed by “Prime Video” to enable Audio Description. Note that this feature is only available while using the Amazon Prime Video application.

Video Captions

  1. Open the Accessibility settings menu.
  2. Select “Caption”, then select it again to enable video captions.

  1. Use the available submenus to adjust video caption settings, such as text and background colour, font and font size, and background opacity.

Alexa Captions

  1. Open the Accessibility settings menu.
  2. Select “Alexa Captions”, then select “Alexa Caption” to toggle Alexa Captions on.

VoiceView Remote Shortcuts

VoiceView provides spoken feedback to help users who are blind or with low vision to navigate the device.

  • Enable/Disable VoiceView: Hold the Back and Menu buttons for two seconds.
    – This toggles VoiceView on or off.
  • Interrupt VoiceView speech: Press and hold the Play/Pause button.
    – This stops the current speech.
  • Increase/Decrease VoiceView speech rate and volume: Hold down the Play/Pause button and press Up, Down, Left, or Right.
    – This adjusts the speech rate and volume.
  • Hear audio description of buttons on remote: Hold down the Play/Pause button and press Select.
    – This provides an audio description of the remote buttons.
  • Repeat content: Press the Menu button.
    – This repeats the last spoken content.
  • Access default Menu button functionality: Press the Menu button twice quickly.
    – This accesses the default function of the Menu button.
  • Enable/Disable Review Mode: Hold down the Menu button.
    – This toggles Review Mode on or off, allowing detailed navigation of screen elements.

Text Banner Remote Shortcuts

Text Banner is an accessibility feature that displays on-screen text in a banner for easier reading.

  • Enable/Disable Text Banner: Hold the Rewind and Fast Forward buttons for two seconds.
    – This toggles the Text Banner on or off.
  • Show/Hide Text Banner: Long press the Play/Pause button.
    – This displays or hides the Text Banner.
  • Scroll banner text: Press the Rewind or Fast Forward button.
    – This scrolls the text within the banner.

Screen Magnifier Remote Shortcuts

Screen Magnifier allows users to zoom in on the screen for better visibility.

  • Enable/Disable Screen Magnifier: Hold the Back and Fast Forward buttons.
    – This toggles the Screen Magnifier on or off.
  • Enable/Disable zoom: Press the Menu and Play/Pause buttons.
    – This enables or disables the zoom function.
  • Zoom in: Press the Menu and Fast Forward buttons.
    – This zooms in on the screen.
  • Zoom out: Press the Menu and Rewind buttons.
    – This zooms out on the screen.
  • Pan up: Press the Menu and Up buttons.
    – This pans up within the magnified screen.
  • Pan down: Press the Menu and Down buttons.
    – This pans down within the magnified screen.
  • Pan left: Press the Menu and Left buttons.
    – This pans left within the magnified screen.
  • Pan right: Press the Menu and Right buttons.
    – This pans right within the magnified screen.
