Western Australia’s Electoral Commission is introducing a low sensory polling place for the 2025 State Election at The Hepburn Centre in Marangaroo. This initiative aims to provide a quieter and less stimulating environment for voters who may benefit from it, including autistic and neurodivergent individuals, and those with intellectual and developmental or learning disabilities. Features of the low sensory polling place include reduced lighting, access to break-out areas, and minimal noise levels.
Election campaign workers will not be present to ensure a calm atmosphere, but How-To-Vote cards will be available for display.
Low sensory polling will operate over four days:
- Thursday 27 February, 8.30am to 12.30pm
- Saturday 1 March, 8.30am to 12.30pm
- Tuesday 4 March, 12pm to 4pm
- Thursday 6 March, 2.30pm to 6.30pm
The introduction of low sensory polling places in Western Australia has significant national implications, particularly with the upcoming Federal election, as it sets a precedent for inclusive voting practices that could be adopted nationwide.
