Seoul-based Webtoon has teamed up with Dot Inc. to release tactile digital comics for readers who are blind or with low vision.

Two popular series, “Yumi’s Cells” and “Hooky,” will be available free on Dot’s “Dot Pad” device.

The Dot Pad uses Braille technology to convert visual content into tactile graphics, making comics visually accessible.

According to David S. Lee, head of Webtoon’s United States division, “Part of our mission at Webtoon is to make Web comics more accessible for fans around the world. Dot Inc. shares Webtoon’s commitment to innovating for inclusivity. After making comics more accessible to people in a mobile digital format, we’re thrilled to work with Dot Inc. to create a new content experience for the visually impaired.”

Dot Inc.’s managing director, Misook Go, also shared her enthusiasm, noting that this partnership brings Web comics to life for readers who are blind or with low vision, enhancing their reading experience.

The Dot Pad device is compatible with mobile devices and laptops via Bluetooth and features 320 refreshable Braille cells, allowing users to run their fingers over the display and perceive images with their fingertips.

The release date for Webtoon content on the Dot Pad device has not been announced yet.
